Gert
Weigelts initial professional career was that of a classically
trained dancer. His training took him from Berlin to Copenhagen.

his professional stage career he worked together with many excellent
choreographers such as for example: Hans van Manen, Jerome Robbins,
Jiri Kylian, Kurt Jooss, Glen Tetley and Birgit Cullberg.
He danced for the ensemble of the Royal Swedish Ballet, the
Cullberg Ballet and the Dutch Dans Theater.Following the ending
of his dancing career Weigelt studied Artistic Photography in
Cologne Through this medium he remained in close contact to
the dancing scene. He very quickly established himself as the
dance photographer and helped the "Tanztheater² ,

From the middle of the seventies he followed as a dance chronicle
choreographers such as Pina Bausch, Hans van Manen, Susanne
Linke, William Forsythe, Gerhard Bohner and many more.

strongly towards portrait- and (staged) body photography.
